We love all kinds of chips and dip but one of our favorites is Hummus with pita chips. There are many great brands of already made hummus you can buy in the store but it's super simple to make your own and it's less expensive.
A normal recipe for hummus calls for Tahini sauce, but since so little is used and it can be pricey and only comes in big containers, so we made our own version sans the sauce. We love it just as much!
19 oz. can of Gabanzo beans
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 clove garlic peeled
4 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp sesame seeds
1 tsp salt
black pepper to taste
*optional: some people like to add a tsp of cumin, you can also replace one of the tbsp of olive oil with sesame oil if you like the nuttier flavor of sesame. For a bit of spice sprinkle with paprika.
Combine all of your ingredients except the black pepper into a food processor. Blend until mixture becomes smooth.
Place mixture into a bowl, cover and place in the refrigerator for about two hours.
Serve in the same container (or split in to smaller containers for lunch boxes etc...) top with a drizzle of olive oil and pepper to taste.
Serve with pita chips (our favorite), carrots, cherry tomatoes, etc... Enjoy!
